HISTORY:
To know Nana and what she is, one must first know what a Diclonius is. Some say that they are evolved, and some describe them as mutants, but it is clear that they are not human - a species related to humans, yet irreconcilably different. The physical manifestations of this difference are simple and easy to identify: naturally pink hair and eyes and small, hollow-conal horns on the head. It is at this point, however, that the differences cease to be simple and relatively harmless physical anomalies and start to become threatening and deadly. Diclonii have one more thing that humans do not, and that is something called vectors: a specific number of telekinetic extra limbs, possessing a specific range and size which can be employed as grotesquely effective killing weapons and tools of infection, altering the DNA of those whom they touch and infecting them with the genetic capacity for giving birth to more Diclonii. At any time, there is a single 'queen bee' Diclonius who is capable of infecting and breeding with humans, more often than not producing Diclonius known as 'Silpelits' -Diclonii whose ability to reproduce is inhibited and whose growth process is distorted by the presence of the queen bee Diclonius so that they age at two-times the normal pace -essentially, her worker bees. Nana is one of these Silpelits.

Nana was taken from her family as soon as she was born, her horns and hair unmistakable signs that her parents had been infected by a Diclonius, and rather than being euthanized like most other Diclonius children, Nana was taken to a research lab off the coast of Kamakura in Kanagawa, south of the city of Yokohama, Japan. There, Diclonii were gathered and held for research purposes, given only numbers for names -and Number 7, 'Nana-ban' was Nana's number. For seven years of accelerated growth that left her with the appearance of a fourteen-year-old, Nana endured torturous experimentation designed to find the limits of a Diclonius' power and the location of their weaknesses, so that they could be adequately fought and contained by humans. The experimentation was pure agony for Nana, and in order to preserve her sanity in such a dark and dreadful place, she latched onto the only positive human influence in her life, a doctor who oversaw her experimentation: Dr. Kurama, or as she came to refer to him, "Papa."

Papa became Nana's entire reason for continuing to survive. Faced with the awful reality of her existence, to be nothing more than a guinea pig to be used and beaten-up until she finally died, Nana could imagine that what she was doing was not against her will, but something that was a matter of duty- something to make her Papa proud, and something to make him love her. Nana suffered ceaselessly until one day, a fellow Diclonius escaped from the institute, and at last Papa had a need for her- to go out and retrieve Lucy, the escaped Diclonius, and to make Papa proud. Nana chased after this task with gusto, eager to please Papa and to prove herself to be a brave, good little girl who had learned well from her suffering and deserved to be rewarded. She even took Papa's tie with her, wound tightly over her horns and tied in a bow as a charm for good luck...

Nana's mission was a brutal and complete failure. When Nana confronted Lucy she made it very clear that she, unlike other Diclonius, was not willing or eager to harm or kill Lucy in completing her mission. The battle was long and strenuous, as it takes greater skill and precision to wield vectors without deadly effect, and at a critical point during the confrontation a young human girl strayed onto the battlegrounds, unwittingly putting herself in danger. Nana tried to warn the other girl of the danger and get her to safety, and while she was distracted Lucy took the opportunity to attack. Lucy was brutal in dismembering Nana, and having assumed that Nana would be too blinded by pain to retaliate, Lucy moved into closer range so that she could take real pleasure in the horrible torture that she was inflicting on the other Diclonius. Nana's many years of training had taught her how to endure mind-blowing agony, but as she lay bleeding on the pavement the thing that truly hurt her the most was that she had let her Papa down. She had failed, lost, truly been defeated... Nana's mind swam in constant, crippling pain and she was barely aware of Lucy's killing blow being interrupted by arriving troops, of Papa himself running Lucy off of her, of Papa lifting Nana in his arms and taking her to the nearest hellicopter in order that she be rushed for medical treatment. While Nana's life was saved by the doctors back at the research facility, she was so badly damaged that the decision was made almost immediately that, regardless of her unprecedented willingness to cooperate with humans, it would be better for them to euthanize her. But Nana had been a good girl, and had earned Papa's sympathy, if not his love...

While Nana drifted in and out of consciousness, delirious from blood loss and the extensive amount of painkillers and antibiotics that had been pumped into her system to keep her placid in case she wanted to attack, Papa smuggled Nana out of the institute and to freedom. Papa arranged for her to be provided with state of the art prosthetic limbs -limbs that she would be more capable of manipulating than any other previous amputee by virtue of her vectors, and more than enough money to make her way in the world. As she was placed in the casket-like device Papa intended to smuggle her out in, Nana was only half-aware of the message that Papa recorded for her when she awoke, drifting in and out of consciousness but remembering that Papa wanted her to go far, far away and live discreetly, and that when the time came... he would come and find her at last.

When she was taken to Nihil, Nana had not yet regained full consciousness.

Personality: Nana is a polite young girl, though her civility is always touched by a sort of cautious awareness. She believes that most people -human and Diclonius alike- are inherently capable of malice, cruelty and evil. Despite this all-consuming wariness, Nana is still just a little girl who has not seen much of the world beyond her holding cell: she can be easily distracted or frightened by the unusual people and things around her, and can become disarmingly happy over the littlest sensations of freedom: seeing the ocean like she did when Papa first took her from the compound to capture Lucy, trying different foods, seeing different kinds of clothing... things like that. She loves Papa and wonders why he has sent her to such a strange place with such a collective of strange people, but has committed to endure until she figures out what Papa wants from her.

Appearance: Nana is a little bit over 5 feet tall with pale skin, large pink eyes and faint, naturally pink hair. She looks more like a pink carnation that has been given human form than anything else. She favors her severed limbs, which are still just freshly healed and cause her a great deal of pain when jarred, and has prosthetic arms and legs that she does not know how to fasten properly and ends-up holding in place and manipulating with her vectors.

Abilities: Nana has 4 vectors, with a maximum reach of 5 meters each. she can use these vectors to perform essential acts of telekinesis: lifting and moving objects within her range. She can also speed-up the movements of these vectors enough to cut through things as thick as metal with proper concentration, and can reach into objects, plants, even people with other degrees of force and concentration. Nana does not like to use her vectors to hurt people, so nobody is truly in-danger of her.

Strengths: Her vectors, capacity for taking pain

Weaknesses: Her severed limbs, Papa, the constant worry that she's not a good girl.
